The challenge with the pirate ship design was to keep a childerns book style but at the same time it has to function correctly in the real world. Based off my design a 12 ft. miniature was built along with a real size of set in Australia. Working with the director I produced many sketches, finally he decided to go with the one sketch that had a more distinct human fetures on the back of the ship. Interterseting sides of my job is the director sometimes get inspired from a sketch. For example, when the director saw a human characteristic in the drawings he came up with the idea that when magic dust covers the ship it would produce a smile and fly away to London.
