This was a great opportunity to work on a classic fantasy childrens book.
ILM was involved in early stages of preproduction.
My responsibilities included Storyboarding, illustration and the pirate ship design.
The challenge with the pirate ship design was to keep a childerns book style but at the same time it has to function correctly in the real world.
Based off my design a 12 ft. miniature was built along with a real size of set in Australia.
Working with the director I produced many sketches, finally he decided to go with the one sketch that had a more distinct human fetures on the back of the ship.
Interterseting sides of my job is the director sometimes get inspired from a sketch.
For example, when the director saw a human characteristic in the drawings he came up with the idea that when magic dust covers the ship it would produce a smile and fly away to London. |
